How To Clean New Flat Screen Tv

"Gather round, everyone! The Super Bowl is on!"

Entertainment just a few decades ago used to be tag, yo-yos, and a game of baseball out in the street with twigs and rocks. Nowadays, those activities would be just punishment for a young child being extra twerp-y.

How do we stay entertained for five hours a day? Plasma, LED, and LCD televisions that connect to the internet and enough high definition detail that even Stevie Wonder is impressed, that's how! These screens are comparable in size to an NBA backboard, yet are somehow skinnier than a pizza box.

One thing hasn't changed, however: the layer of dust and fingerprints (kids gotta be kids) that accumulate on LCD screens. Even the incredibly fierce dragons from an episode of Game of Thrones lose their luster when your large TV display needs cleaning.

What you once thought was fine for big screen cleaning may no longer be the case. If you want a clean LCD screen, here's how to tackle cleaning a TV without leaving streaks. I'll start with the three rules of thumb:

1.) YOU'RE DAMAGING YOUR TV SCREEN IF YOU USE HARSH CHEMICALS.

First and foremost, do not use any chemical products on an LCD screen. Especially do not use a common window cleaner (Windex, etc.) or anything with alcohol or ammonia in it. These are going to mess up the protective layer on your fancy TV screen. Windex was OK on the good old tube TVs, but has to stay away from the delicate screens of LCD, LED and Plasma TVs.

2.) DON'T CLEAN THE TV SCREEN WHILE IT IS ON.

Do it before turning your TV on, or make sure to have your TV off for around 15 minutes and completely cooled down before you go to clean it in any way. Otherwise, you're going to run into evaporation issues with your cleaning solution and notice that it is very difficult to keep streaks from forming. Plus, it's much easier to clean an all-black background rather with than the jerky movements and colors that most programming is comprised of.

3.) OVER SATURATION IS FOR SUCKERS.

Spraying your LCD screen directly with cleaning solution is not a good plan. The ultimate sin would be to over-use a cleaning solution. Too much liquid usually means streaking. Don't over-saturate your cleaning cloth either. A few gentle sprays will suffice to make your TV shine like the day you got it out of the box.

STEPS TO SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY CLEAN LCD SCREENS

Everyone is always in search of a quick and dirty, temporary fix to a recurring electronics problem. A dirty LCD/LED screen or plasma TV seems like the perfect time to "use whatever you have around the house" and do it yourself. This approach is fine, provided you have some common sense. Here are the steps to safely and effectively clean LCD/LED screens with what you may have in your house.

  1. Get a bottle of distilled water (no tap water).
  2. Pick up a spray bottle.
  3. Get some microfiber cloth. Stay away from paper towels and any other wood-based papers as they could leave fine scratches on the screen.
  4. Turn the set off and let your plasma screen (or any screen) fully cool down. Hot Screens and streaking usually go hand-in-hand on LEDs, etc.
  5. Fill the spray bottle with distilled water. Spray your microfiber cloth (not the screen).
  6. Gently wipe the screen in a circular motion with the cloth until the screen is clean and dry. There should not be any streaks if you did everything right. Once done with the cleaning, DRY the cleaned area with the drier portion of your cloth.
  7. If water is dripping down the screen into the electronics, you over saturated. Go section by section on your large display, and re-spray the cloth when you find wiping is too dry (rather than soaking the cloth with water on the outset).
  8. Repeatedly the process until you are satisfied with your newly clean LCD screen (or plasma, or LED, or the 1983 Sony passed down from Grandpa).

THE LIMITATIONS OF USING PURE WATER TO CLEAN LCD SCREENS

While water can do a decent job in a pinch, it still has some shortcomings: pure water will usually have the tendency to leave streaks and extra static. Unlike a specially-formulated solution for your TV, water will also not provide any anti-static properties to the surface (meaning fibers and dust will quickly gather up on your newly cleaned screen). Static, heavy dust, and ugly streaks on your screen require for a professional grade solution.

SEEM LIKE A BIT MUCH? IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE.

Having to order a separate microfiber cloth and providedistilled water is a lot to ask of a person who'd rather be zoned out learning about the chemicals onBreaking Bad instead.

That's why we developed ScreenDr, the all-in-one large display cleaning kit that packs all three of those ingredients into one punch. (okay, punch might not be the best analogy for talking about achieving a clean LCD screen). There's a good reason why Best Buy clerks prefer ScreenDr when cleaning display units in stores.

This formula comes in a 9 ounce bottle that works on any display you have in your house (that includes laptops and large gaming desktop computers). The dedicated premium fiber cloth is stored right in the bottle. And the solution is designed specifically to clean delicate LCD/LED and Plasma screens. There is no alcohol or ammonia or anything bad in it that will kill the rainforest (or at least the moving picture of a rainforest on National Geographic channel). The ultimate kicker is that ScreenDr comes equipped with anti-static ingredients that will keep your TV dust-free for much longer.

No more streaks. No static or dirt smudges. And the only alcohol required is the beer you can enjoy while admiring your handiwork during another humiliating Bears game.
